I've really had a breakthrough with Jack's Tot School this week. This has been an awesome week of learning fun for Jack. The past few weeks have been difficult having Jack only nap once a day now. This means Jack is up and running around during his older brother's school time. Well, this week I decided to sit Jack at our school table across from big brother, put out some activities for him, and see what happened. Here were the results, and no, Jack did not do all of these things in one day, actually two, but he did wear the same pj's for more than one night:-) and just happens to have them on in all of this week's pics:-):

This was a huge success! I hope to have many more weeks just as this week. Jack loved working at the table with Joe. It was heartwarming watching them work together. One of the rewards I enjoy from having children, and being blessed enough to be able to homeschool them.
Jack did other things as well this week, like puzzles:

Pasta I Spy/sensory bin, this was a big hit! (This idea came from The Rogers Family Blog.):

Jack also found a baby doll at home and decided to care for this doll just as he sees me care for Jesse. Taking care of this doll was completely initiated by Jack, and it has been so sweet and entertaining to watch him with his "Jesse" (this is what Jack calls his doll) throughout the week. I tried really hard to get a picture of Jack burping him--my favorite to watch--but never did have the camera nearby at the right moment.

To see what others are doing this week in Tot School, head over to 1+1+1=1.

Aww, good job Jack!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that this is working for you. Does Joe like having Jack at the table with him? So cute that Jack is caring for "his Jesse".
ReplyDeleteSometimes that is what we need to do is just sit them up with the things to do and let them go for it. It always helps too when there is an older sibling that they might want to imitate or do the same as their sibling is doing!
ReplyDeleteLove the doll!
cute pictures!!! looks like they had some fun this week
ReplyDeleteOh, I like the idea of using pasta for a sensory bin - so much easier to clean up than oatmeal, sand, or beans. I think I'll try that with my kids, thanks for posting it!
ReplyDeleteawww that picture is precious!
ReplyDeleteWe have that transportation puzzle, ER loved it when she was a little younger. I like how it's a puzzle and pieces can be a little toys in and of themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat sensory tub looks like a lot of fun too!
It is a hard transition to go from 2 naps to 1. I am glad he is doing so well. We just recently went to no naps. That one is hard. No down time for me. But he does seem to be going to bed earlier and so I guess I do get some me time IF I don't fall asleep with him. :)
ReplyDeleteOh what a precious big brother!! I love it. Kayleigh loves her babies and is a good little mother too.
ReplyDeleteWe did a similar sensory tub, only with fake leaves. Big sis did a "demo" and it didn't work out so well. LOL
Looks like Jack's been busy with lots of fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteAnd I commiserate on the nap thing. We've been down to one nap most days, but for the past month it's been NO naps. I'm still struggling to adjust...
No worries Meadow wore the same PJ's twice at our house and they are in this weeks photos too! I look forward to having times like this with my children.
ReplyDeleteLove the Jesse doll. So so sweet!
So cute! I loved when Abby started "burping" her baby dolls. Is that not the cutest thing!
ReplyDeleteHow great it is that Jack loves his baby brother so much and cares for his doll so passionately. He is such a smart and happy boy, I just love to see his pictures. Its also awesome that your children can truly learn from each other.
ReplyDeleteAnd in self defense you now discover why my three kids all do the same thing. That may not be your reason, but it sure is mine......
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a great week to me, oh and my kids like your music.
Such a sweet boy! I'm glad he is having fun & productive play time with everyone.
ReplyDeleteOh, the picture of him with "his Jesse" is precious! It looks like he had a lot of fun with his schooltime!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I totally want to try a sensory I Spy bin with either rice or pasta!
