"D"ino Craft How-To

This week in our Preschool Corner we studied the letter "Dd". Joe loves dinosaurs so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make a dino craft with him. We made an awesome T-Rex head out of a few simple things we had around our house. This was a really fun one to make and he was super excited with it when we were done!

Here is what we used:
  • a long rectangular shaped box
  • packing peanuts for teeth and nose
  • two egg carton sections (the circular egg cups only)
  • two googly eyes
  • cardstock for the tongue
  • Elmer's glue and hot glue gun
Here is what we did:
  1. Paint either the top or bottom of the box red. This will be the mouth.
  2. Paint all the other sides color of your choice for dino--Joe chose green.
  3. Paint two sections of egg carton for your eyes.
  4. Paint 4 packing peanuts color of your choice for the nose.
  5. Cut out a tongue for the inside of mouth.
  6. Cut cardboard box in half on three sides. This will make it into a "puppet" with a mouth that can actually open and close.
  7. Glue tongue to inside of mouth with Elmer's glue.
  8. Glue packing peanuts all around outside edges of mouth to create teeth. I used the hot glue gun for this. I didn't think Elmer's would hold up well after a bit of play.
  9. Glue googly eyes to egg carton sections.
  10. Glue egg carton sections to top of head.
  11. Glue packing peanuts, stacking two on top of one another side by side to front middle of head to create a nose.
  12. You're done!!

  6. Sigh, I'll never get enough boxes like that by the time we study dinosaurs. There are just way too many cool dinosaur crafts.

  7. It is so large and "life size" for a kid - so neat! It has that real dinosaur appeal! Super!
